Taking
Care of your Limited Edition Fairy
I hope that you have many years enjoyment from these
Limited Edition Fairy Prints. I know everyone who has
viewed my work in the past has found an unusual joy in the
imagery, and delight in the possibilities.
To protect it, I recommend that the following suggestions
should be followed to increase the life of your
photographic print. These are only guidelines and it is
still your choice of how and where you hang and
display it.
The single most important piece of advice: by all means
-
AVOID HANGING YOUR FAIRY PRINT WHERE IT WILL BE EXPOSED TO
DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
Exposure to direct sunlight has damaged more art than any
other element. While many fairies are "elementals, they
just will not stand up to Daddy Sun's unrelenting glare.
Please make every effort to avoid having your fairy in a
location which will have it face long periods of exposure
to excess sunlight, or indirect bright light, even if
hanging it in a sunny location seems right and cheerful for
your fairy.
The primary cause of image fading on most photographic
materials is ultraviolet light. (Which, interestingly
enough, has done in many a supernatural creature.)
All fairy prints should be framed and displayed under glass
to protect the image surface from the environment of your
house or apartment. Glass, especially if it has been UV
coated, adds another layer of protection.
When cleaning the glass on your framed piece, all the
better to see your fairy, do not spray the cleaner directly
on the glass – the cleaner could run under the edge of the
frame, soaking the mat or introducing moisture inside the
art space; spray your cloth first, and then, wipe the glass
clean.
It is recommended that photographic prints be
displayed in tungsten lighting, ideally with 75-watt
(75R30/FL) or 150-watt (150R/FL) internal reflector flood
lamps. Installing a dimmer switch on the display light lets
you adjust the intensity for greatest effect and print
longevity.
Quartz halogen and fluorescent lamps are
NOT recommended unless a UV filter, such as Plexiglas
UF-3, is placed over the fixtures.
To extend the life of a fairy print, keep the room as dim
as possible when not in use. As far as temperature and
humidity is concerned, don't hang your print in areas that
experience wide temperature variations, high heat (attics),
or high humidity (damp basements), or, heaven forbid, the
bathroom. Wide temperature variations can cause the framing
materials to warp.Wide humidity variations will cause the
paper to swell and buckle and the ink to bleed or run. Hot
temperature and high humidity together is deadly to your
fairy print. The use of air conditioners, especially
humidity-control units, are recommended.
For maximum enjoyment of your fairy, display your print in
an area that allows for people to stand back and take in
the entire image.
These GUIDELINES will hopefully help extend the life of
your Limited Edition Fairy Print.
Just
remember that there are no guarantees for extended life of
a print if you chose to ignore these guidelines and hang it
"wherever".
